Viktor Yanukovych's first year as Ukrainian president has brought predictability to the life of the country, certainty to its foreign policy and has given rise to reforms, Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn has said.

"Given the fact that under Ukrainian conditions one year means five, then, of course, we can talk about the first results of the president’s first year in office. First of all, he has brought predictability and certainty to life in Ukraine," he said in an interview Interfax-Ukraine on Tuesday, while assessing Yanukovych’s first year as president.

"Secondly, it is a broad manifestation of the need for reform. The reforms that everyone talked about such a lot are now being proposed," the speaker said.

"The third aspect is putting clarity in Ukraine’s foreign policy priorities, which has been reflected in the principles of domestic and foreign policy… Therefore, I believe that in this context, a good foundation has been laid for the next year, in particular, to ensure that the president’s second year in office is dedicated, first and foremost, to boosting the economy through the creation of conditions for everyone, as well as for small- and medium-sized businesses," Lytvyn said.
