Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has blamed the previous government for Ukraine's huge debt.

"Never before has our nation had such a huge debt, the lion’s share of which is mindless loans taken in 2009 at an annual interest rate of almost 30%," he said opening a government meeting in Kyiv on Wednesday.

According to him, this March the payment on debts will be Hr 10.5 billion, which is more that the government spends on medicines and preparations for Euro 2012.

The peak of the payments will fall on July, when Ukraine has to return Hr 19 billion, which is more than this year’s spending on education, Azarov said.
