You're reading: European Choice inter-faction union set up in Ukrainian parliament

The European Choice inter-faction union has been formed in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

"The purpose of the union is to provide comprehensive and coherent assistance to Ukraine’s political association and economic integration into the European Union," Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn said at a morning session of parliament on Tuesday.

The speaker said that the union included 27 people’s deputies and was co-chaired by MPs Anatoliy Kinakh and Ivan Pliusch.

The constitutional composition of the Verkhovna Rada includes 450 deputies.

There are five factions in parliament, in particular, those of the Regions Party (184 deputies), the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko (105), the Our Ukraine-People’s Self-Defense Bloc (68), the Communist Party of Ukraine (25), the People’s Party (20), as well as the Reforms for the Future group (20). Another 20 people’s deputies are not members of any faction.
