Mexico, Kazakhstan and the Ukraine were active buyers in the gold market last month, while the Philippines' central bank lifted its gold reserves by more than one million troy ounces in the month prior, latest figures from the International Monetary Fund showed on May 24. The purchases, particularly that by the Philippines - the largest reported addition to a country's gold reserves since Mexico bought 2.5 million ounces in March 2011- should "gather much attention from market participants...[and] should somewhat help sentiment for gold," UBS analyst Edel Tully said. The Euro 2012 countdown is almost over. After five years, co-host Ukraine has experienced political transformation, scandals and anticipation in tandem with large scale infrastructure projects that saw some 2,000 kilometers of roads get commissioned, airport capacity almost double in each host city, and four stadiums either get built or undergo renovation. Extra plotlines have been heaped on Ukraine’s storied rocky road of preparation, while other narratives have collapsed. Recent reports have highlighted the stain of racism in Ukraine. He did understand why Uefa had granted Ukraine (and Poland) the Euros. “Fifa have taken the World Cup to South Africa, Brazil, Russia, Qatar. The European Union has denounced the violent disruption of peaceful events organized on May 19-21 in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv in connection with the country's first ever pride parade involving hundreds of LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) activists. In statement on Thursday, EU Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton voiced her deep concerns over the violence unleashed by a group of ultra-conservative youths during the "Kyiv Pride."
