Russia Today: Ukraine’s LGBT leader beaten upon canceling gay parade Conflict for conflict’s sake is what some anti-gay campaigners in Ukraine were apparently seeking as yet another LGBT parade failed to march through Kiev. As Ukraine's Gay Forum head called the action off, hooligans cornered the man to sort him out.

The lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community of Ukraine were diverted from their gay pride route on Sunday, as half a thousand of nationalists and anti-gay activists arrived at the parade’s meeting point in downtown Kiev. Some ultra-right and religious campaigners were merely holding placards reading “No to gays!” but police reports said nationalists were firm in their resolve to attack the march.

Independent: England fans warned after gay pride parade is ambushed by 500 ultra-right hooligans in Ukraine Gay England football fans travelling to Ukraine for Euro 2012 have been warned to keep a low profile for their own safety.

The advice came after Kyiv's first ever gay pride parade was cancelled on Sunday amid fears of violence from far-right thugs.

Television pictures showed Svyatoslav Sheremet, head of the Gay Forum of Ukraine, being kicked and jumped on by a group of men after the event was stopped.

Svyatoslav Sheremet is the head of the Gay Forum of Ukraine. Sheremet's group was organizing a Pride festival in Kyiv, but was prevented from doing so when rightwing extremists, including neo-Nazis, descended on the city. After Sheremet told the media that the festival was canceled due to the dangerous situation at hand, three Nazis attacked Sheremet. The men only stopped beating Sheremet when they realized their actions were being caught by the cameras of journalists. Sheremet was bloodied, but pictures show him standing upright after the beating.

Detroit Free Press: Ukrainian club owner draws 36 months in Eastern European human trafficking scheme It took five years to hunt him down, and about five hours to sentence him.

But as of today, the federal government is done chasing Ukrainian nightclub owner Veniamin Gonikman, who was sentenced to three years in prison for his role in an operation that smuggled Eastern European women into the U.S. and forced them to work in local strip clubs. He is the ninth and last defendant to be convicted in the human trafficking case.

Gonikman, who led the government on an international manhunt for years, only admitted to money laundering, and insisted there were no "vulnerable victims," that he was never on the run, and that he lived openly in Ukraine. He was pushing for a 10-month sentence.

EU News: Parliament demands an end to selective justice in Ukraine MEPs criticize the recent decision of the High Court of Ukraine to postpone its ruling on the appeal by former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko against her seven-year prison sentence, in a resolution adopted on Thursday. They warn against delaying the legal proceedings, condemn the use of force against her by prison guards and remind Ukraine of its obligation to examine any complaints of cruel treatment. Parliament says doctors must be sent to treat Ms Tymoshenko and a high-level observer must monitor the court cases against her, as agreed last week between EP President Schulz and Prime Minister Azarov.

London Evening Standard: Murder police set to quiz widow of Londoner killed in Ukraine The family of a London businessman run down by a car in the Ukraine has welcomed the opening of a murder investigation into his death.Barry Pring, 47, of Battersea, was killed on his first wedding anniversary in February 2008 as he waited for a cab on the hard shoulder of a dual carriageway on the outskirts of Kiev.

The car was travelling at 80mph with its lights switched off and debris found at the scene included false number plates and a bogus taxi sign.

Police in the Ukraine have now upgraded their investigation from unexplained traffic accident. Officers want to interview Mr Pring’s widow Anna Ziuzina, a 33-year-old former stripper who met him through a dating agency.

BBC News: Barry Pring Ukraine death reclassified as murder The death of a wealthy Devon businessman in the Ukraine four years ago has been upgraded to a murder inquiry, his family has said.

Barry Pring, 47, was visiting his Ukrainian wife when he was killed by a speeding car in February 2008. Police initially treated his death as a hit-and-run accident, but his family have always believed he was murdered. Foreign Secretary William Hague raised the matter with the Ukrainian authorities last month.
