BISHKEK (Interfax) - The U.S. transit center at Manas airport in Bishkek cannot be used in a possible military operation against Iran, U.S. ambassador in Kyrgyzstan Pamela Spratlen has said.

The transit center at Manas international airport performs one single mission which amounts to supporting the stabilization process in Afghanistan and preventing the appearance of havens of extremists there, she said in an interview with the Turkish TRT channel the transcript of which was posted on the website of Akipress news agency on March 9. And the announcement concerning any other missions made by U.S. ambassador in Moscow Michael McFaul or any other reports of other missions are untrue, she said.

Spratlen said that the United States is ready to hold talks with the leadership of Kyrgyzstan on the extension of the term of the transit center at Manas airport beyond 2014.
