Ukraine should be prepared for the fact that the Russian leadership, in particular, current Russian President-Elect Vladimir Putin, will realize the idea of creating a Eurasian Union, Head of the Penta Center for Applied Political Studies Volodymyr Fesenko has said.

"We must be prepared for the fact that Putin will implement in practice a political idea that he put forward before the presidential election campaign. I mean the idea of creating a Eurasian Union," Fesenko said at a press conference in Kyiv on Wednesday.

He said that according to the Russian leader, the CIS will be a priority in his foreign policy, and that Ukraine should be prepared for this. He said Ukraine "should look for respective formats of opposition and interaction in order to protect [its] national interests."

Fesenko described the presidential elections in Russia as the main event of March 2012.
