Moscow - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin and Ukraine's First Deputy Foreign Minister Volodymyr Khandohiy met on Monday to discuss the pressing issues of Russian-Ukrainian cooperation, as well as international and regional problems of mutual interest, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"The parties have acknowledged with satisfaction the positive results of the fifth session of the Russian-Ukrainian intergovernmental commission’s committee for economic cooperation held in Yalta on November 19, including the reached gas arrangements," the ministry said in a statement posted on its Web site on Monday.

The political consultations also focused on the most fundamental topics related to the presence and functioning of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Ukraine.

"The parties pointed to the inviolability of the 1997 basic agreements and the need for strict compliance with them. It was agreed to resolve all disputes at the negotiating table without letting them to be politicized," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

It was agreed to hold the next session of the intergovernmental commission’s subcommittee for the Black Sea Fleet in spring 2010.
