MOSCOW, Dec 9 (Reuters) - The administration of the Russian region blighted by a disastrous nightclub fire resigned on Dec. 9, as the death toll from the country's most deadly blaze in decades rose to 123.

"In connection with the tragic events of Dec. 5, the government of the Perm region has decided to resign," a statement from the local administration said.

The fire in the Urals city of Perm was sparked on Friday when an indoor firework show ignited wicker coverings on the walls, prompting a stampede as partygoers rushed towards a narrow door to escape clouds of toxic black smoke.

A blaze sparked by an indoor firework show ripped through a crowded Russian nightclub on Dec.5 night, killing at least 102 people and injuring 134 as revellers stampeded for the exits. A Ukrainian citizen was injured in the deadly blaze.
