Kazakhstan vows to contribute to conflict settlement within OSCE
Jan 26, 2010 at 13:37 | Interfax-Ukraine"The Russian-Georgian conflict in August 2008 vividly confirmed the danger of unresolved conflicts within the OSCE region. So far, the international negotiating processes on the conflicts in Transdniestria, South Caucasus and Nagorno-Karabakh have not produced noticeable results," Serzhan Abdykarimov, director of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry's OSCE department, told a roundtable in Astana on Tuesday.
"Aiding the settlement of these protracted conflicts is a solid priority of any [OSCE] chair country. And we will try to make our feasible contribution to this complex process," Abdykarimov said.
"There is a persistent need today to pursue not only a post-conflict reaction policy. Detecting potential conflicts in advance is also a crucial issue today," he said.
"In this context, we attach great importance to the work of Bolat Nurgaliyev, the special representative for protracted conflicts of the OSCE chairperson-in-office," he added.
Kazakhstan took over the OSCE chairmanship on January 1, 2010. The organization's chairperson-in-office is Kazakh Foreign Minister Kanat Saudabayev.
