OSCE chair-in-office to assist resolution of conflicts on post-Soviet space
Feb 8, 2010 at 13:00 | Interfax-UkraineSaudabayev put emphasis on the OSCE's ability to assist the United Nations in the prevention and elimination of threats, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry said on Monday.
"Saudabayev said that the fulfillment of Kazakhstan's chairmanship priorities would largely depend on the ability of OSCE member states to build up mutual confidence and to do away with the division lines remaining from the Cold War era on the OSCE space," the ministry said.
He also said that the Kazakh government would do its best to resolve the conflicts, especially those on the post-Soviet space, the ministry said.
"Bearing in mind our common history and similar mentalities, we hope to give an impetus to the efforts of our partners involved in the complicated [settlement] process," he said.
The Kazakh chair of the OSCE will closely monitor the protracted conflicts and make the maximum use of the OSCE mechanisms in the prevention of the conflict's escalation.
Saudabayev will visit Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia in February.
