NEW DELHI (AP) — India and Russia plan to sign agreements to set up joint ventures in the energy industry and discuss ways to boost cooperation in the nuclear power, space and defense sectors.

External Affairs Ministry spokesman Vishnu Prakash says the agreements will be signed Friday at the end of talks between prime ministers Vladimir Putin of Russia and Manmohan Singh of India.

India hopes to increase uranium fuel imports from Russia and wants Russian investment in its nuclear power stations. Moscow has said it may build up to 20 nuclear reactors in India.

India is also a top Russian arms client. It recently secured production licenses for T-90 tanks. The two countries are building a modern supersonic fighter, equivalent to the U.S. Raptor stealth fighter.
