Russian ski president quits over Olympic flop

Mar 22, 2010 at 16:13
MOSCOW (AP) — The president of the Russian cross-country skiing federation has resigned after the country's unsuccessful display at last month's Vancouver Olympics.

Vladimir Loginov, who quit Monday, is the third high-ranking sports official to depart following the country's worst-ever performance at the Winter Games, where Russia won only three golds in a 15-medal haul.

Loginov says that the four cross-country medals Russia won in Vancouver "is not sufficient for the authority of Russian skiing sports."

President Dmitry Medvedev urged for heads to roll after Russia finished 11th in the gold count and sixth overall. Russian Olympic Committee president Leonid Tyagachev and deputy sports minister Gennady Alyoshin have since left their posts
