Moscow, April 6 (Interfax) - Russia retains the right to withdraw from the new strategic arms reduction treaty that it plans to sign with the United States, should Washington's strategic missile defense shield have a considerable impact on the effectiveness of Russia's strategic nuclear forces, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"Russia will have a right to pull out of the treaty on strategic arms reductions if quantitative and qualitative increases in the U.S. strategic missile defense potential start to have a considerable influence on the effectiveness of the Russian strategic nuclear forces," Lavrov said at a press briefing in Moscow on Tuesday.
