You're reading: Moscow mayor to visit Sevastopol July 24-25

The Mayor of Moscow (Russia), Yuri Luzhkov, will visit Crimea for meeting local authorities on July 24 and 25, Ukrainian News has learned from a spokesman for Sevastopol municipal state administration.

In his words, Luzhkov will arrive in Simferopol on July 24.

There he will meet Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea Vladimir Konstantinov and Chairman of the Crimean Council of Minister Vasyl Dzharty.

They are anticipated to sign a programme for cooperation between Moscow and Crimea for 2011 and into 2013.

On July 24 Luzhkov will also go to Sevastopol to meet chairman of the Sevastopol municipal state administration, Valery Saratov.

Saratov and Luzhkov are planned to sign a programme for cooperation between Sevastopol and Moscow for 2011 and into 2013.

Apart from this, Luzhkov has intention of visiting headquarters of the Russian Federation’s Black Sea Fleet and meet Black Sea Fleet Commander-in-Chief Vladimir Korolev.

The Moscow mayor is planned to visit the 35th Coastal Battery historic-memorial complex and the national museum of the Ukrainian Navy.

Moreover, Luzhkov is intending to open a festive concert on Nakhimov’s Square on occasion of the Day of the Russian Federation’s Navy and to take part in a parade of ships.

Luzhkov is scheduled to fly back to Moscow at 5pm, on July 25.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs believes that the statement pronounced by Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov concerning Sevastopol to disagree with the good neighbourly relations of Ukraine and Russia.

On 12 May 2008, the Security Service of Ukraine prohibited Mayor Luzhkov from entering the territory of Ukraine for his public statements on the city of Sevastopol.

Member of Parliament Viacheslav Kyrylenko from the faction of the Our Ukraine – People’s Self-Defense Bloc said on July 9 that Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov was no longer person non grata in Ukraine.
