Russia thanks Ukraine for its proposal to render help in extinguishing forest fires.

Ukrainian News learned this from a statement by the press service of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych.

According to the statement, during a meeting with President Yanukovych on Monday Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kostiantyn Hryschenko said Russia highly appreciates Ukraine’s preparedness to render help in the struggle against fires.

"Your preparedness to render help is highly appreciated by our partners in Moscow," said the foreign minister.

Hryschenko noted the situation indicates that not only Russian can give help to Ukraine, but also Ukraine can give practical help in a difficult situation.

According to mass media reports, 34 people have died as a result of forest fires in Russia. The emergency situation is in 14 regions of Russia.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, President Viktor Yanukovych on August 1 proposed Russian President Dmitry Medvedev Ukraine’s help in tackling the effects of forest fires in Russia.

The State Forestry Committee warns about high fire danger in the southern and eastern regions of Ukraine.
