A state of emergency has been declared in the Ozyorsk closed territorial entity in the Chelyabinsk region, where the Mayak nuclear fuel disposal and storage facility is located.

"The entry to forests and the kindling of bonfires has been banned in this territory. The management of enterprises and organizations must take urgent and exhaustive fire prevention measures," the Ozersk administration said in a statement.

Administration head Viktor Trofimchuk will hold an emergency conference on Tuesday to coordinate the work of all services.

Meanwhile, efforts to put out a fire has continued since August 6 in another district of Chelyabinsk region near Snezhinsk, where the Academician Zababakhin federal nuclear center is located. The blaze, spreading over an area of 7 hectares, was localized on Sunday.

The Academician Zababakhin nuclear research center is one of two internationally recognized Russian nuclear facilities.
