MOSCOW (AP) — An anti-Kremlin political activist is being jailed for three days, allegedly for refusing to obey police orders.

Lev Ponomaryov was arrested on Sunday after the detention of other prominent Kremlin opponents, apparently for attempting to hold an unauthorised march.

Russian news agencies said that one of Moscow’s district courts ruled Wednesday that Ponomaryov, 70, unlawfully ignored police orders and should serve three days behind bars.

The opposition activists were celebrating Flag Day, a holiday honoring the tricolor flag adopted by a newly democratic Russia when the Soviet Union collapsed. They were allowed to hold a rally but not a march.

The other activists were detained Sunday and released early the next morning after a court ruled there was insufficient evidence against them.
