One person has been hospitalized after a building collapsed in St. Petersburg, spokesman for the Investigative Committee of the Prosecutor General's Office Vladimir Markin said.

"One woman has been taken to a hospital, where doctors are trying to assess the gravity of the damage caused to her health," he told Interfax.

Three shop assistants from the shops located on the first floor managed to leave the building, Markin said.

The building was under reconstruction, but there were no workers inside at the time of the collapse, he said.

An eight-storey residential building collapsed on Ligovsky Prospekt in St. Petersburg on Tuesday.
