Moscow, December 4 (Interfax) - Russia's top criminal investigation agency has launched an inquiry into an air crash at Moscow's Domodedovo airport on Saturday that claimed at least two lives.

The investigation is based on Part 3 or Article 263 of the Criminal Code, which punishes violations of transportation safety rules and the mishandling of vehicles, the Investigative Committee said in a press release posted on its website.

A Tupolev Tu-154 aircraft that took off from Moscow’s Vnukovo airport around 3 p.m., heading for Mineralniye Vody, a city in the Russian North Caucasus, tried to make an emergency landing at Domodedovo after two of its engines failed, the release said.

One more engine failed during the landing, and, as a result, the aircraft rolled off the runway and crashed into some buildings, the report said.

Investigators are working at the site.
