Moscow, December 11 (Interfax-Ukraine) – A timber ship, with a crew of Ukrainian and Russian sailors on board, sank in the Bay of Biscay on December 10, the Sovfracht Maritime Bulletin Internet publication has reported.

"The North Spirit, a timber ship that carried a cargo of timber from Sweden to Bejaia (Algeria), sent a distress signal in the Bay of Biscay 50 miles off Cape Ortegal (Spain) in the afternoon on December 10. Presumably, cargo shifted and caused the vessel to list. A 17-strong crew – nine citizens of Ukraine and eight citizens of Russia – were evacuated and transported to La Coruna Airport, and nobody was injured," reads the statement.

According to the publication, Spanish rescue workers sent three helicopters to rescue the crew.
