When Lori Costanza learned that her sister, Rachel Proctor, was traveling to the Ukraine to help interview teenaged orphans to come to the United States for five weeks during the summer, she knew – despite her sister’s denials – that Proctor would end up with one of them in her home. “I knew she would do it because she’s that kind of person,” says Costanza, who lives in Sodus with her husband, Todd, and their two children – Jack, 3, and Belle, 2. “But I didn’t think I would until she came back and showed me the photos and told me about the kids.” Proctor, an obstetrician and gynecologist at South Shore Women’s Health Care in St. Joseph, made the trip earlier this year, landing in Kyiv, Ukraine, and spending 12 days in a van visiting orphanages in central, southern and eastern Ukraine.
