About 18,000 public libraries are operating in Ukraine now and their number shrinks due to reduction in the number of readers, President of the Ukrainian Library Association Iryna Shevchenko said. "In Ukraine, old norms are in effect, according to which one library establishment falls on one inhabitant area with population starting from 500 persons," she noted.
