Vladimir Putin, Russian prime minister, has agreed to waive sanctions against Ukraine and amend Russia’s natural gas contract with the country, in a move that could ease fears of a disruption to European gas supplies this winter.Thursday’s agreement could also boost the prospects in Ukraine’s hotly contested presidential election for his Ukrainian counterpart, Yulia Tymoshenko.
