KIEV, January 16 (Itar-Tass) --The situation in Ukraine with less than a day before the presidential election slated for January 17 remains calm and evolves in a democratic way, First Deputy Chairman of the Russian Federation Council Alexander Torshin, who also represents a mission of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, said.

“Everything is much calmer, more sound and solid, and better thought out now than in 2004. The headquarters are ready and not fighting, and the candidates are criticising each other quite ethically,” he said. Torshin said the whole group of observers from the mission of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly had arrived in Ukraine. “It has a total of 77 members, mainly parliamentarians from eight states,” he added.
