Georgia will work with any president chosen by the Ukrainian people, the leader of the Movement for Fair Georgia opposition party and former Georgian Prime Minister, Zurab Nogaideli, has said.

"I think that Georgia should and will work with any leader who will be chosen by the Ukrainian people. It’s not up to Georgia or somebody else to advise Ukrainians who should be the leader in their country. It’s necessary to build good, neighborly and strategic relations with this leader. And we’ll do so in future," he said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine on Wednesday.

Commenting on the course of the presidential election in Ukraine, Nogaideli said he was concerned about the situation with Georgian "observers."

"Unfortunately, it appeared that among these ‘observers’ were not only MPs and others who could and should visit different countries to monitor elections, but also police officers, and unexpected people. But the main thing was their number. I don’t even understand why this step was taken by [Georgian President] Mikheil Saakashvili," he said.

Nogaideli said that such a situation raises concern, as it has a negative effect on Ukrainian-Georgian relations.

"But I think that the dust will settle down and a government will be replaced after the election here [in Ukraine] and especially there [in Georgia], and we’ll have neighborly and strategic relations," he said.

Nogaideli visited Ukraine on January 20.
