MANAMA, Bahrain (AP) — A lawyer in Bahrain says a special security court has sentenced a protester to death for killing a policeman during a wave of anti-government demonstrations in the Gulf kingdom earlier this year.

The lawyer, Mohsen al-Alawi, says the special tribunal that was set up during emergency rule, on Thursday also gave prison sentences to doctors and nurses who treated injured protesters during the unrest in the island nation.

Thirteen medical professionals were sentenced to 15 years in prison.

The others got shorter prison terms.

Doctors and nurses were charged with anti-state crimes.
