Tbilisi, Dec. 5 (Interfax) - The Georgian village of Mereti was under shelling from South Ossetian positions for ten minutes on Friday morning, the administration of Georgia's Shida Kartli region reported.

"The shelling came from both small arms and grenade launchers. The gunfire centered mainly on a police checkpoint in the village's suburbs. No one was killed or injured," the administration said.

The Georgian side claims that this was the second shelling of Mereti from the South Ossetian side this week.

Interfax is awaiting reports on the incident from other sources.
