Ukraine hopes that a meeting between Ukrainian and Russian Prime Ministers Yulia Tymoshenko and Vladimir Putin on Saturday will help implement the memorandum on gas cooperation signed by them last year.

Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Hryhoriy Nemyria said this at a meeting with Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski in Kyiv on Friday.

"In our opinion, this [meeting] is a step toward implementing the memorandum signed by the Ukrainian and Russian prime ministers," he said.

Speaking of Ukraine's participation in an energy summit in Russia, Nemyria pointed to the position of Tymoshenko and Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko, given in the media, that such a summit should be held in a European country.
