Investigators will be sent to Russian naval ships combating piracy

Moscow, July 3 (Interfax) - Investigators from the Investigative Committee with the Russian Prosecutor's Office will start working onboard Russian warships combating piracy to arrest the pirates and bring them to Russian territory, head of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin announced.

"I have signed an order to send investigators to the Russian naval ships staying in areas where piracy is being combated," Bastrykin said at a press conference at the Interfax main office on Friday.

Investigators will be authorized to open criminal cases against pirates in line with the Russian Criminal and Criminal Proceedings Codes, to detain and arrest them, to bring them to Russian territory and hand them over to Russian judicial authorities, Bastrykin said.
