Russian President Dmitry Medvedev expects his upcoming negotiations with U.S. President Barack Obama to bring about practical results benefiting the people from both countries.

"We are actively preparing for you visit to Moscow. It is our expectation that the summit should bring about tangible results that should open up new prospects for the development of our ties to the benefit of the Russian and U.S. citizens and in the interests of peace and progress," Medvedev said in a letter he sent to Obama on Saturday to greet him on the U.S. national holiday, Independence Day.

Medvedev believes partnership between Russia and the U.S. can well be brought to a qualitatively new level.

"I hope sincerely that, in combining our efforts and acting in the spirit of mutual respect and trust, we will be able to add the necessary dynamism to Russian-American partnership and bring it to a qualitatively new level meeting the interests of our states and the entire international community," he said.

Among the most important global problems requiring cooperation between Moscow and Washington, Medvedev mentioned strategic stability, nuclear nonproliferation, combat against international terrorism, and regional conflicts.

"The history of our relations, since the first days of the emergence of the American state, has seen quite a lot of good examples of constructive and mutually beneficial cooperation. Interaction between Russia and the U.S. is becoming especially significant for resolving key problems of the modern times. Among them are strategic stability, nuclear nonproliferation, combat against international terrorism, and the settlement of regional conflicts," he said.
