St. Petersburg, November 5 (Interfax-AVN) - The United States will deploy its troops in Poland if the local army needs assistance in modernization, U.S. Ambassador to Russian John Beyrle told journalists in St. Petersburg on Nov. 4.

The U.S. sees Poland as its ally, a NATO member, but the deployment of U.S. soldiers there will have to do with the U.S. desire to assist Poland's plans to modernize its troops, Beyrle said, commenting on the Polish foreign minister's statement made in Washington.

This has nothing to do with providing defense help to Poland, the diplomat said.

Nor is it in any way related to an external threat to Poland that does not exist at all, he added.
