Georgia's foreign minister says his country is worried about the possible sale of French warships to Russia.

Grigol Vashadze said he intends to push for security guarantees at a meeting Thursday with France's foreign minister.

Vashadze also says he intends to seek French support for closer Georgian ties with the European Union and with NATO during his meeting with French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner. He says he would like to ensure that France will keep Georgia on the list of international priorities.

Vashadze also adds that his country is starting to recover economically following the August 2008 war with Russia.

The Georgian diplomat's trip to France coincides with a visit by Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.
