DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Dubai's media office says the emirate has discovered a new oil field — the first such discovery by the city-state in several years.

It says the new field will increase the emirate’s total output, though no time frame or estimates of the size of the field were given.

The statement onFeb. 4said the find is located east of the existing Rashid oil field.

Dubai is one of seven small sheikdoms that comprise the United Arab Emirates federation.

The country as a whole is the world’s third-largest oil exporter, although the vast majority of the nation’s reserves are held by the federal capital Abu Dhabi. Dubai’s own production levels are believed to have been shrinking for years.
