The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry recommends the citizens of Ukraine to refrain from trips to Tunisia because of the political unrest which drove the president from the country, the ministry's spokesman Oleksandr Dykusarov told Interfax-Ukraine on Saturday.

According to him, the Embassy of Ukraine has enhanced its security measures, and is keeping in touch with the citizens of Ukraine staying in the country. The Embassy continues monitoring the situation in Tunisia, which is still tense.

The street protests over unemployment, rising prices and corruption culminated in President Ben Ali’s resignation, and flight from the country. Looting, street clashes and the destruction of cars, shops and other facilities have been registered in Tunisia over the past day.

A state of emergency was declared in the country.
