SEOUL, March 15 (Reuters Life!) - South Korean television and pop stars, who are hugely popular in Japan, have donated over $1 million to the victims of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami.

Actor Bae Yong-joon, affectionately known as "Yonsama" in Japan, where he is famous for his role in the South Korean drama "Winter Sonata," has donated 1 billion won ($890,000) for disaster relief, his agency said.

"I am glued in front of the TV as I’m worried about the safety of all the victims … I will be thinking about the best way I can help," Bae said on a message on his official website.

Other South Korean celebrities including Kim Hyun-joong, a member of the popular South Korean boy band SS501, and actors Ryu Si-won and Song Seung Hun have also made donations, local media reported.
