Tymoshenko stole USD 3 billion worth of gas from RUE, in order to be able to tell the IMF that Ukraine had a 3% budget deficit. Basically she confiscated the gas, gave away a share of it to her BYT associates, and then distributed the rest to Ukrainian population at subsidized prices. Since the Tymo government never paid Gazprom or RUE for this gas, it covered up a big hole in the state budget deficit.
Doesn't really matter how popular she is in Europe, they don't vote for her.
Not so sure she will be that popular now having lied the the IMF and been Prime Minister during illegal arms sales to S Sudan, not to mention the placing of Carbon Credit funds in the wrong bank accounts as stipulated by the Koyoto Protocol allegedly.
