Editor's Note: The following is a statement by imprisoned ex-Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko regarding the Jan. 10 beating of Yuriy Lutsenko, her former interior minister.

"Several days ago Berkut brutally beat Yuriy Lutsenko. For obvious reasons I couldn’t react immediately, but over these several days the country once again saw the real face of the ruling government.

"This includes the heads of the interior ministry, who still yesterday were saying that Yuriy hadn't been beaten, but today video appeared of his beating. This includes the doctors, who to please the government are willing to falsify medical reports and break the Hippocratic Oath.

"This includes the prosecutors, who aren't going to look for those responsible for beating Yuriy Lutsenko and others any time soon, but are willing every day to fabricate cases against those who have the courage to speak out against this regime, against Yanukovych.

"I once again urge all of you to act! Otherwise, they will act. I want to wish Yuriy a speedy recovery.

"Yuriy, Maidan needs you!"
