Foundation: “Mittal Steel” company in 1976

Lakshmi N. Mittal is an Indian businessman, a chief of the directors committee and the main chief executive of the company Mittal Steel, the founder and the owner of Mittal Group.

Mittal found the company in 1976 and was charged with strategic direction and development of business. Mittal Steel is one of the largest producers of steel in the world with enterprises in 14 countries, engulfing 4 continents.

Sir Mittal started his career in family steel-making business in India. So, at present his experience in this sphere is more than 30 years. Over the years, Mittal was able to develop considerably and fix positions of the company in the world market of steel industry. In addition, the company headed by the businessman is successfully engaged in other spheres of activity: by a navigation, production and distributing of electric power, mining industry.

After the united deal Ispat International with LNM Holdings and creating company Mittal Steel in December 2004, and after announcing about acquisition International Steel Group in USA Mittal was proclaimed the “European businessman of 2004” by the magazine “Fortune”. Lakshmi Mittal already was the possessor of the rank “Steel Producer of year” in 1996, and also in June, 1998 was the recipient ofthe award “Bonus of Willy Korf Steel Vision” from the American Metal Market and Paine Weber’s World Steel Dynamics for business undertakings, leadership and success in the world development of steel industry. Also Lakshmi Mittal is a permanent participant of ratings of the richest peoplein the world.

In Ukraine Lakshmi Mittal`s name became well-known after the company of the businessman won the auction on the sale of Ukrainian metallurgical giant "Krivorozhstal'" control package in 2005, according to the governmental program of reprivatization.

In 2006 Mittal was able to make considerable bargain for his company . Eating up the large European steel-making company now Arcelor, Mittаl Steel is controlling about 10% of the world production.

Mittal takes part in the work of different trusts. Mittal isthe councilor of the Foreign Investments in Kazakhstan, Advice of Foreign Investments in South Africa, Advice of World Economic Forum of International business and Executive Committee of the International Institute of Iron and Steel. In addition, Mittal heads ICICI Bank Limited, is the member of Advisory Board of school of management of Kellogg School of Management in the USA.

Lakshmi Mittal got educationat theCollege of Saint Khavier in Calcutta, protecting the diploma of bachelor commerce.

Lakshmi Mittal is married. He has two children: a son Aditya and daughter Vanisha are councilor directors of Mittal Steel. Aditya Mittal is also the financial director of the incorporated company Arcelor Mittal.
