Graduated from forestry school and from the Academy of Work and Social Relations. At the beginning of 1980 served in Soviet army. Then was the head of “Karpati” football team training base in Lvov.

Since 1989 worked in forest exploitations in Yakutia.

1991 - came back to Ukraine and founded co-operative in Lvov. The same year became the president of “Veles” company. In one yearit becamethe member of “Republic” corporation in Kiev.

1994 -1995 - Bakai was the head of coordinating union of “Intergas”.

1995- elected to be Ukraine MP of the 3rd convocation, was not on the permanent staff of the President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma.

1997 – 1998 -the vice-minister of oil and gas industry of Ukraine.

1998 – 2000- the head of “Neftegas Ukraine”.

October 2003- December 2004 - Igor Bakai was the head of the National Case Management Department but in February – April 2005 the Main Control Revision Commission disclosed that NCD and its central authority illegally spent 828.5 million hrn. Bakai is internationally wanted on suspicion of crime committing and official position abusing. Afterthat he became the citizen of Russia.
