Born September 26, 1965 in Bolgrad, Odessa region.

From February 2007 - National Bank of Ukraine supervisory board chairman 

In 1989 Poroshenko graduated from the International Relations and international Law Department at  Kyiv Taras Shevchenko University.

He started his career in the scientific sphere as an assistant: postgraduate student on the international economic relations department at the native institute, now known as Institute of international relations.

But he didn’t limit himself to the scholar activity only. At the beginning of the 90-s Poroshenko became a rather successful businessman.

He earned his first million at the age of 25. It was 1 152 000 Soviet rubles he and 4 other students of the International relations department got for  advising in foreign economic activity.

Later Poroshenko became the deputy general director of Respublica Union of small business anf businessmen. .In 1993 he headed Ukrprominvest concern and starded strengthening his positions in business.

Nowaday  the products of the Roshen corporation which produces sweets and chocolate are in good demand not only in Ukraine but also abroad.  One of the leaders among Ukraine’s TV chanel – 5 channel - also belongs to Poroshenko.

His political biography is also very interesting. He started his political career as a member of SDPU(u), later he became the assistant head of the Party of Regions (2001) but achieved great progress only when he joined NUNS. His greatest achievement for today is the post of the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine from which he was discharged simultaneously with the Tymoshenko government.

His relationships with Tymoshenko are not good since the unity times of the orange team. And as for the president Victor Yushenko he is tied with Poroshenko not only by the same political force but also has very close relationships between their families. Poroshenko is a godfather of one's of Yushchenko’s kids.

Petro Poroshenko occupies 23rd position in 2008 Korrespondent magazine rating TOP-100 (100 most influential persons in Ukraine). He takes 22nd place in the Korrespondent’ rating of 50 richest Ukrainians TOP-50 with 1,1 bln issued  in May 2008.

Poroshenko’s wife Maryna graduated from the Kiev Medical University. The couple has four children.
