In addition Azarov is a doctor of geology-mineralogical sciences (the dissertation – “Mine geophysics”), professor, corresponding member of The National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (branch of sciences about the Earth, mountain geophysics).

Married: his wife Lyudmila Nikolaevna (1946) isa teacher; son Alexei (1971) isan engineer.
