Leonid Chernovetskyyis Kyiv mayor. From the very start on his new post Chernovetskyy has declared himself to the Kyiv authority the manager of new type - as much as possible close to the people. The brightest acknowledgement to it - carrying out of an open enrolment of citizens before the Kyiv mayoralty. This innovation and a number of other reforms of the new head of Kyiv are estimated by inhabitants of Kyiv extremely inconsistent – from sharply negative statements to full approval and promises offurther support.
The newly elected mayor of Kyivis MP with the experience (he was elected to the Supreme Rada of 2nd, 3rd and 4th convocations), his successes in business are also considerable. Chernovetskyy has organised and has headed the commercial, advisory and research centre Praveks, later transformed to concern. Today Praveks is presented basically by the bank with the same name.
The political biography of the Mayor is interesting: for the first time he was elected the deputy beingthe member of the fraction of NDP and Regions of Ukraine group before that was the co-chairman of the party For beautiful Ukraine (from 10.1998till 06.1999),headed the party For beautiful Ukraine (from 06.1999 til 11.2000),the presidium member of The Party of regional revival Labor solidarity of Ukraine (from 11.2000). Today Leonid Chernovetskyy heads Christian Liberal party and since February, 2004 he`s beenthe member of the Nasha Ukraina fraction.
One more aspect of nonconventional views of the newly elected mayor is his religious preferences. Chernovetsky positions himself as the believer, the person often mentioning and quoting the bible writing. Chernovetsky names himself an orthodox, at the same time he is the parishioner of charismatic church The Embassy Divine which its adherents regard as currents of Protestantism.
The wife and children of Leonid Chernovetskyy as well as the mayor are lawyers. The wife Alina Stepanovna (1955)is the vice-president of concern Praveks; son Stepan (1978) and daughter Christina (1979)are themanagers of АКB Praveks-Bank.
