Georgiy Gongadze
July 23, 2008 at 12:04The son of a famous Georgian dissident and director Ruslan Gongadze.
Born May 21, 1969 in Tbilisi, Georgia.
1986 – entered the language and literature department of Lviv National University.
1987-1989 – served in the Soviet contingent in Afghanistan.
May 1989 – entered the National front For Free Georgia founded by his father.
1991 – went to Georgia to take part in the civil war on the opposition side. At that time was a freelance journalist of the Post Postup newspaper in Lviv.
1992-1993 – the host of the program Monitor.
1993 – released documentary My land’s pain about war in Georgia.
1993-1994 – worked as a chief editor of the creative circle The Centre of Europe.
1994 – released a film Shadows of war.
1995 –1999 moves to Kyiv, works on television at different TV Channels.
September 1999 – the host of the daily live program Pershyy Tour with Georgiy Gongadze which was on the air of Ukrainian radio station Continent.
April 17 2000 – launched web-site Ukrainska Pravda.
September 16 2000 – disappears. His beheaded body was found in a wood outside Kyiv in late 2000, setting off weeks of high-profile street protests that called for the dismissal of top officials, including then President Leonid Kuchma. His head has not been found.
Became famous thanks to his publications about corruption in the country.
Laureate of the OSCE prize in journalism in 2001 (posthumously).
Was married to Myroslava Gongadze with two twin-daughters.
