Petr Simonenko isthe head of the Communist Party of Ukraine,Ukraine MP. Communist Party of Ukraine has lost its positions on the latest elections and hardly went through 3% barrier (on March 28, 2006 only 3,66% of electors voted for the CPU) instead of the long and stable position of CPU on the previous elections.Though they tried to raise the number of electorsby supportingmodern, oriented for youth and not peculiar to the conservative communists slogansbut it didn't help.

The leader of CPU Petr Simonenko has 2 higher educations: Donetsk Polytechnic Institute with specialty "Electrical mechanic engineer " and Kiev Institute of Political Science and Social Management. Today Petr Simonenko is almost the only big politics representative which has not got scientific degree and national reward.

Was elected to be the first secretary of the party after CPU renewal in 1993. Year later becameUkraine MP and the leader of the communist parliamentary fraction. In 2008 was the candidate to the speaker of VerkhovnaRada twice. Helacked 5 votes. On the president elections in 2004 he has got 4th position of 24 candidates but the difference was significant – 4,97% of people voted for him in the first tour (in 1999 37,8% of people voted for him).

His wife Svetlana (1952) is an economist, elder son Andrei (1974)is aneconomist and a lawyer, second son Konstantin (1977) graduated from Donetsk National Medical University.
