Igor Gilenko surpassed his colleague Sergey Tyhypko. When the latter in 2004 headed the National Bank of Ukraine, journalists, jokingly, nicknamed the head of the NBU managing board a ‘televirus’. Because the main banker of the country would appear on TV too often for no particular reason. When television “was cured” from Tyhypko, it was Gilenko who replaced him.
