Governments come and go, but Dmitry Firtash and his business are eternal. taking into account all the game rules, the largest joint owner of a gas trading monopolist Rosukrenergo (RUE) now should be taking sedatives. But instead Firtash still holds a glass of Champaign in his hands.
In January Korrespondent asked the premier Julia Timoshenko: “Why does this company [RUE] exist in our relations so long? Where do all the ropes lead to? To the Bankova street or to Kremlin?” Timoshenko immediately answered: “The company exists for so long, because it always worked under the ‘roof’ of Ukrainian authorities. I am not going to be the new ‘roof’ for this disgrace and absurd”. But still, it is not an easy job to dismiss Firtash and his company. Even for almightily Timoshenko this businessman is a hard nut to crack. Apparently, the ‘roof’ above the multimillionaire’s head is fixed way too well.
However, it can shift soon. Igor Kolomoysky (#3) expressed an earnest interest in RUE. “I began negotiations on a purchase of 50% of Rosukrenergo ,” the multimillionaire said in his March interview to Ukrainska Pravda <...> 50% cost not less than $2-3 billion. Although the situation may change tomorrow and even $5 billion will be a good deal”.
