When last fall Valery Khoroshkovsky in addition to his TV channels Inter, K1, K2, and Megasport purchased another TV channel NTN, Korrespondent asked the businessman if he used his own assets or used the attracted means for the deal. Khoroshkovsky answered with a smile: “It never ceases to surprises me, when others calculate my resources”.
Three months later Khoroshkovsky began calculating other people’s money with much enthusiasm. Yulia Tymoshenko summoned the businessman to the state custom service. A task set to him, was to fight against contraband and increase customs fees. The head of State Customs Service reports to the nation at least once a month, about the unprecedented taxes, which he managed to squeeze out from stingy exporters and importers.
And what about his business? Nothing to worry about. While Khoroshkovsky is preoccupied with the state service, his wife looks after business. In April Elena Khoroshkovsky was elected as the head of a supervisory board of the Ukrainian independent TV-corporation (Inter).
But Khoroshkovsky is not going to always hunt the contrabandists. What will this media magnate do next? As early as last October he told Korrespondent about his plans: “I would not enter [media] market if I did not have the vision to become a number one player”.
