Filia Zherbovskaya, chair of the board of the pharmaceutical company Farmak, and her brother Pavel Zherbovsky, a parliamentary deputy from the Our Ukraine-People’s Self-Defence bloc, in 2009 gained managerial control over the company, having amassed 60 percent of its assets. That’s not just a success, but a strategic victory in a fight with investors who were buying up free securities on Ukraine’s the rapidly growing pharmaceuticals market. When the administrative and financial advantage of the Zherbovskys proved to be total, the point of the race was over. “We’ve already sold most of our holding,” Dmitry Tarabkin, director of Dragon Capital, told Delovaya Stolitsa in February. “Until there is a change in the corporate governance of Farmak, I wouldn’t consider the purchase of its shares a financial investment.”
