RFE/RL: Oil tanker blast, fire kills 3 in Russia’s Daghestan

A picture taken on Sept. 17, 2015 shows a Russian flagged oil tanker after it was caught in Libyan waters without permission and brought to Tripoli's maritime base by Libyan coastal authorities for investigation as they believed the Russian crew were smuggling fuel from the port of Zuwarah, some 160 kilometres from the capital. The captain said its 12 Russian crew, including a woman, were detained. Moscow said it was working to secure the release of the Russian nationals.

Three sailors have been killed in an explosion on an oil tanker and subsequent fire in Russia’s Caspian port of Makhachkala, officials say.

Russia’s Emergency Situations Ministry branch in the North Caucasus region of Daghestan said that three people were hospitalized following the blast, which occurred early on June 11.
